I just realice that fmod is not a free sound library.
I was trying to find and package for ubunto linuix 32 and it does no exist.
what sound library do people use for Linux and Mac?

Um openAL does not seems to have package for Unbutu either.
has you use it with Linux?

I'm using OpenAL on linux. It's preinstalled, but for development you should also install libopenal-dev.

I also use OpenAL...
... and there are both the library and -devel packages in the default repository (OpenSUSE 12.1).
In my opinion fmod is no problem, as it is freeware, but it has to be installed manually, so OpenAL is the better solution
