Exagerated buoyancy

Postby tod » Thu Jul 05, 2012 2:36 pm

I have a problem with buoyancy, namely it pretty much acts as a springboard, meaning the instant a body hits the plain it springs upwards with great speed. Tweaking density and viscosity didn't change anything. I'm using Newton 2.29. Does anyone have any idea what may cause this behavior?

you need to add some viscuos drag to the body.

Sorry I don't think I understand what you mean. I tried different values for viscosity on addBuoyancy, from 0.5 to 1000, without change. I also added some linear damping to the body that I throw, without much difference (it moved slower but jumped none the less). I also checked the density of the body, it's about 11 and the fluid had 0.7. Tried other densities for the fluid, etc...
I have a videohere, maybe there is something else I don't get.

that looks like a different error. try setting the density to zero, and see if the rock sinks.

Strangely enough the error is gone. I am not aware of doing something about it. The values I use are pretty much the same  . Now I have a different problem. Any idea about this?

P.S. Thanks for your help.

you are not setting the moment of inertia correctly.

I don't get it. I am not doing anything special with the momentum. The rock behaves normally when hitting the terrain, except when submerged.

No, I'm using SDK 2.29.

try using core 300, I am no doing any code chnage or debugging in core 200 anymore.

I've investigated a little bit further and it seems some strange rotation is generated, as seen in this video. Any ideas?

I reactivated the buoyancy code for core 300, I thought it was working but yes, I've got this rotation issue too. I'm afraid I'm not sufficently skilled in physics to solve this problem.
