problem with speeds and gradients

Postby prathap » Mon Aug 10, 2009 8:34 am

HI, I am facing a problem using newton vehicle. I have real parameters for heavy truck. When I applied the same torque as given by the manufacturer, maximum speeds are no where near the expected. At the same time my vehicle climbs up any gradient, if I set the mass to a lower value. Main problem, I observed here is with the rolling resistance, I mean, the vehicle comes to a constant speed at a particular torque, but this torque is increasing from gear to gear(with the vehicle speed). The variation so much, which is not expected. How can I avoid this? Friction values are not effecting my speed. very low friction values reduce the speed too much. but beyond certain value, its not effecting at all. Any Idea????

I am confused with your question.
what are you doing and are you using the lastest Newton?

I am using Newton -1.53 . I am using it in Ogre. I will try to put it in simpler way? I observed that friction is changing with velocity. Any idea on how does it change? And how to avoid it? Let me explain you the problem more clearly.
My vehicle's mass is 55000. I have created the inertia with hollow sphere. I am supplling torque to rear wheels only. In first gear it comes to maximum speed around 60000 torque, where as in 2nd gear it reaches its maximum at 80000 torque, 3rd 110000 and so on. b'cos of this I am not able to go to more than 4th gear. Gradient capability in this situation is little ok. This situation is not changing with increased or decreased friction. Also I want to know what is the index stands for in apllying friction?

ONe more thing I for got to tell you is that if i increase the torque to avoid this problem its climbing up any gradient, which should not happen so

there is not support to 1.53 I can not keep working on two front.

I am working on a raycast that his open source for 2.00, so you can see how every things works.
this car use curves and can closer to realistic values than the car in 1.53

Althought it sound like you are given lot of information those number do not mean anything.
are you using thr RayCast car in 2.0x?
The latest version is 2.07
