Tunneling is the side effects of objects moving at high speeds, where an object may move such a great distance during one step that it doesn't register all collisions with obstacles. NewtonBodySetContinuousCollisionMode and NewtonCreateConvexHullModifier can help in such situations to prevent high-speed bodies from tunneling thru obstacles.
